Life Skills Camping 2023

One of the flagship programs of EDAS is the “Life Skills Camping”, which is an annual event that brings together hundreds of orphans from different orphanages and schools across the country for a four-day-long camping experience at a scenic and serene location. The “Life Skills Camping 2023” was held from 10 to 13 April 2023 at the Rangamati Waterfront Resort, an ideal place for conducting educational and recreational activities, situated in Shafipur, Kaliakair, Gazipur district near Dhaka city that aimed to develop the hidden talents of the children, foster their self-confidence and self-reliance, strengthen their bonds of friendship and brotherhood, and instill in them the values of morality and humanity. The “Life Skills Camping 2023” was attended by about 700 orphans, aged between 8 and 16, from different orphanages and schools affiliated with EDAS. The staff and volunteers included teachers, counselors, doctors, nurses, coaches, and trainers, who provided round-the-clock support and guidance to the children. The camping was organized with a theme of "Build thyself, Help to build". The theme was inspired by the lives and works of six renowned scholars who were orphans in their childhood but enlightened the whole world through their hard work and reliance on Allah (SWT). The six scholars were Imam Bukhari, Imam Hanafi, Imam Shafi’i, Sultan Salahuddin Ayubi, Imam Hambali, and Tareq bin Ziyad. The groups and sub-groups competed in various educational, sports, and cultural activities, as well as learned about the life and legacy of their respective scholars. The Camp included a variety of educational station activities, outdoor games, literary competitions, medical and dental checkups, sports competitions, and cultural performances to achieve its set goals. The educational station activities were designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of the children in different subjects, such as Quran, Hadith, Fiqh, Seerah, Arabic, English, Mathematics, Science, and General Knowledge. The outdoor games were designed to improve the physical and mental health of the children, as well as to promote teamwork and cooperation among them. In the camp setting, children were encouraged to take on leadership roles and learn to work collaboratively with their peers. They have got the scope to learn to communicate effectively, delegate tasks, and make decisions that benefit the group. By participating in different activities and taking on responsibilities, children can develop leadership skills that will benefit them in all areas of their lives and develop their creativity, and gain confidence in their ability to think outside the box. “Life Skills Camping 2023” has provided the children with a unique opportunity to develop valuable life skills that will serve them well in the future, offer a chance to grow and develop in ways that they may not be able to in a traditional classroom setting. By attending the camp, children have become better equipped to navigate the challenges of adulthood with confidence and grace.
